Oral Blood Thinners

A blood thinner helps your blood flow more smoothly through your veins and arteries, and helps prevent clots from forming. They also help prevent heart attacks and strokes. Depending on your condition, we may start with blood thinners prior to treatment, or prescribe them following a procedure.

Your Treatment Experience

This is a prescription you’ll take, generally 1-2 times a day. You will have to be careful to avoid injuries, especially a head injury, as more bleeding will occur.

Expected Results

Blood thinners may not immediately reduce the symptoms you feel, but they do go to work right away to prevent clots. We’ll recommend avoiding certain foods and medications while taking certain blood thinners (Coumadin and Warfarin), so you don’t counteract the effectiveness.
